My State Is Breaking The Law!!!

Been patiently waiting for my Permit to Purchase for close to 3 weeks now. Out of curiosity I went to check the actual time line my state has to get me my permit. The law is pretty clear that it should be denied or accepted within 7 days. None of my messages have been returned. Needless to say in these troubled times I am getting a little agitated. Check it out for yourself.

https://www.revisor.leg.state.mn.us/...7131&year=2008

Subd. 5. Granting of permits. The chief of police or sheriff shall issue a transferee permit
or deny the application within seven days of application for the permit. The chief of police or
sheriff shall provide an applicant with written notification of a denial and the specific reason for
the denial. The permits and their renewal shall be granted free of charge.

What say you?

Free option : Continue to press for an answer.
Costly option : Have your attorney write a letter.

Aren't they now technically "in default"? Time to file a lawsuit for a default judgment?

The RIGHT thing to do: Ask for a meeting with the big C and tell them that the CLEO is sitting on his @$$ and not following protocol.

The BEST thing to do: Keep pestering the CLEO on your inquiry the last thing you want is to open up a hornets nest with the Big Boss which could lead to him wanting to "Review and update" permit protocol

HINT:IT WILL NOT BE TO YOUR ADVANTAGE

Cops breaking the law???:cry1::cry1::cry1:

So what if the guy went to a neighboring state that had a gun show, cash and carry?

I'll play the devil's advocate here... I'm sure the volume of applications in the last 2 months has gone through the roof, and they probably only have 2-3 clerks to handle this process, with no funding nor desire to bring in temporary help to speed things alone. Give it some time, and you'll get your permit. Yes, it's aggravating, but you calling them will only further distract them from doing their job approving someone's application (maybe even yours).

I'd have to agree with you.....When I went, back in November, to get my permit(s) I was amazed at how many folks were standing in line. The room was about 10 x 16 and it was PACKED, and out the door. This was a mid day work week. Based on the size of the room, number of seats available, and windows, I'd be suspecting that they are truly overwhelmed.

I know these are some very anxious times, but have some patience, but do persist on calling them for your permit.

True, but it is no longer honored by the government. The state requires that you obtain individual permission instead.

You are absolutely correct. It is our constitutional right.

However, our "elected" officials know what's best for us. Furthermore, the people of this federation (including some here) elected to the office of the Presidency a scumbag lawyer who believes the Constitution is "outdated."

The "law" is whatever these bastards decide it is on any given day. Has everyone forgotten? - "Stroke of the pen, law of the land. Kinda cool!" Not that the chit that results from actual legislation is any better, but you get the idea of how easy it is for TPTB to make criminals out of ordinary citizens.

Well I will telll you that that is not true for everybody....... nobody in my area has wanted to get permits and my CLEO stll sat on his lazy @$$ ....... no one can get in touch and never once communicated that (increase).. Then the best part is after 3-4 months dude gets a promition and I have to start to whole thing all over again

Screw them bastards....... they sit on your sheet on purpose.

In your state is this just for handguns?
Here we have the 10 days on handguns but for long guns once you have a permit it is open for one year & you can grab as many as you want.
Just curious if you folks have to wait for both handguns & rifles?

I live in a free state where a man can buy as many guns as his heart desires!

(Have to get a permit to carry it concealed though)

Wisconsin = 48 hour waiting period for handguns, no waiting period on rifles/shotguns.

The wait is for handguns and any "Military style" weapons.

Ok so what happens if someone kicks in my door tonight and holds me at gunpoint while they rape my gf. I'm guessing I would have some decent leverage for a nice juicy lawsuit against the city. It seems like they are blatantly defying state law here. As long as people just keep giving them an inch every now and then, they will soon be complaining about far worse infractions.

After talking to a few more people around here it seems that we have a VERY Liberal City Hall. So odds are they are going to take their sweet time in getting this permit to me.

Gee, and I thought California was bad. You have to get a permit to buy? How often must one do this? I just paid for a Mosin Nagant today. I will have to wait 10 days to pick it up(same with all other firearms)and had to pay a $25.00 fee for the background check. That fee must be paid every time you purchase! I don't care for the laws in this state either!

I was with my brother-in-law yesterday and he bought one of those rifles (very nice rifles BTW - on sale for $89) - about 10 minutes to do a background check (no fee), he paid cash and walked right out, gun in hand!

What state are you guys in? I'm envious! I paid exactly $89.00 as well. Yes, the one I am getting is in very nice condition. Certainly worth the price!

Our procedure in Ohio: Walk into the gunshop, select the firearm you wish to purchase, fill out and pass the fed background check (usually 10 mins or less), pay for the firearm, walk out with firearm. Oh, and pick up ammo while waiting for the background check to clear.
There are some sucky things here in Ohio, like rising unemployment and state tax on coin purchases, but being able to select, buy and walk out with a firearm in less than half an hour is pretty sweet.

I love it! Your background check takes 10 minutes. here in Calif. we have to pay $25.00for the background check, and wait 10 days!

If you have a CCW permit and a drivers license there is no background check when buying guns. :tongue_ma:

My last background check took about 10 minutes - for 9 of those, my dealer was hitting the redial button....

When FL finally became a "shall issue" state, it was my belief that this was the intent - if you had a CCW, a background check was not necessary.

In reality, I've had to have a background check on every weapon I've bought from a dealer, store, or gunshop. The only thing a CCW does for you here in FL on the buying side is that the 3-day waiting period on handguns is waived.

Pretty smooth to purchase here in Texas too. Longest wait is the line at the counter, and that is long these days. BG check is like a few minutes.

I can't effin believe that anyone would live in a goddam state that requires you to ask the government permission to own a firearm.

Sorry to say it, but if you play their little unconstitutional games, you deserve the additional harassment.

Yet you sit there and whine about how your state is "breaking the law." Jesus. You accepted that shit when you applied for your "permit" and forfeited your God-given rights.

Happy effin New Year.

We are so totally fukked if the majority of gunowners are like you.

Really nice blaming this guy for his state firearm laws, like he is personally responsible. Attitudes like this is why TPTB will win. Hoo-rah.

Not once in that post did I blame him for his state's laws. Nope. But he is responsible for his actions. Or inaction. 100% responsible.

Let's put it another way.

If I were to take a team, break and enter your residence, zip tie you and your family, take your firearms (a la Katrina) (and no, I wasn't there), would you blame me or the ones that issued the order? Gee, sorry about that boot to the chest and all, but I was just following orders don't ya know.

And no. Rolling over on your back and pissing yourself when the .gov says jump will be why TPTB will win. Holy Christ. Yeah, I'm pretty sure we're fukked.

Re: My State Is Breaking The Law!!!

I sympathize with Infantry's fervor, but yeah, you can't blame one guy for his state being F'd up. Even if every upstanding, non-criminal gun owner in the People's Republik of Kalifornia voted for pro-2nd Amendment candidates and issues, I do believe they'd still be outnumbered at this point. I recommend people vote their conscience by moving when a state gets that bad. If it leaves the PRK to the Mexicans and gangbangers or Taxachusetts to the wine-sniffing limousine liberals, so be it. There's plenty of space and resources in between. If Ohio ever became East Kalifornia in an irreversable fashion, I know I'd be leaving for Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee or West Virginia PDQ.

Re: My State Is Breaking The Law!!!

Hrm. Maybe I'm not being as clear as I can on this issue, so I will start from the top.

I do not blame this young man(?) for his state's unconstitutional law.

I do blame him for acting like a little bitch and whining about it on a goddam forum after effectively forfeiting his liberties by asking permission from his state to buy a freaking gun! Oh gee, now they're taking too long? What's he going to do about it?

Apparently nothing. Maybe wait a little longer, huh? This young American was neutered sometime in the past.

We all know what the Constitution and the BOR state. I'll be damned if I, as a Citizen of these united States, am going to ask permission of anyone to own a gun.

Britain quartered soldiers in personal residences and levied taxes in the colonies without allowing representation.

Did the Founders say "Fukk it, let's move?"
